Dare Essay Requirements

DUE DATE:  Monday, Dec 13th, 2010 

THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!!  This is the graduation requirement for the DARE program and a writing grade for your normal class.

 How to format the Essay:

            Must be TYPED!!

            Must be a minimum of 250 words (3/4 page)

            Must be 12 pt font

            Must be Times New Roman font

            Must be in Black and White

            Please put Title, Name, Teacher, and School at top of page

Paragraph one:  Introduction. 

            Here you want to introduce DARE.  Tell me what DARE stands for. ( Drug Abuse

            Resistance Education.)  Do you think the DARE program is important? 

Paragraph Two:

            What did DARE mean to you?  What did you think when you first heard an officer was going

               to come teach your class?  What do you think about an officer coming now?   

               Did you learn anything?

Paragraph Three:

            Why is it important for young people to not abuse drugs, and to resist violence? 

            Here I would like to hear some evidence maybe from your own lives and experiences

           and also from the information in your book and the movies we have watched.  Be specific.

            What drug are you talking about?  What does it do to you?  USE YOUR BOOK.

Paragraph Four:

            What did you learn from DARE that will help you stay away from drug abuse and

            remain violence free?  Why is it important?  When will you use it?  How will it help you?

            Could you use it to help others stay away from drug abuse and violence?  

Paragraph Five:

            Conclusion.  Wrap things up.  Was DARE a positive experience?  Would you

             recommend this to other students?

**Paragraph Six**  Pledge:

            Write a promise to someone (teacher, friends, parents, etc.) that you will be drug

            and violence free for your life.  Be as creative as you want to be.
